Sports injuries can happen suddenly or build gradually with training. The goal is to identify the injured structure, restore safe movement and strength, and create a realistic path back to activity.
Common Sports Medicine Concerns
Athletic injuries can affect bones, joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments, and cartilage. The same symptom may have several possible causes.
Acute Athletic Injuries
Collisions, falls, twists, or awkward landings may cause sprains, strains, fractures, dislocations, or joint injuries that benefit from timely assessment.
Ligament & Cartilage Injuries
Ligaments stabilize joints, while menisci and labra support joint mechanics. Injury may cause swelling, instability, clicking, catching, or pain with pivoting.
Muscle & Tendon Injuries
Strains, tendinitis, and tendon tears can cause pain, weakness, bruising, or reduced power. Severity and location guide treatment and rehabilitation.
Overuse Conditions
Repetitive loading without enough recovery can irritate tendons, muscles, bones, or growth areas. Training changes and movement mechanics are often part of treatment.
Joint & Cartilage Injuries
Damage within a joint may follow trauma or repeated stress. Persistent swelling, catching, or loss of motion can signal the need for further evaluation.
Return-to-Sport Planning
A safe return is based on healing, motion, strength, control, confidence, and sport-specific demands—not simply the number of days since injury.
Evaluation
Evaluation includes how the injury occurred, current symptoms, prior injuries, training demands, and an examination of movement, strength, and stability. X-rays, MRI, or other testing may be recommended depending on the concern.
Treatment Options
Care may include temporary activity changes, rehabilitation, bracing, medication, or an injection when appropriate. Surgery is reserved for injuries in which repair, reconstruction, or another procedure is expected to improve stability, function, or joint health.
